The 411 was found in Poundbury NY USA where it had been left by Bruce Heafitz. In the middle of a divorce, he signed it over to the shop in payment for services. The shop sold it to me for the cost of the storage.

I contacted Heafitz in Peru where he kindly signed a bill of sale that quit claim any interest he would have it in.

I registered the car in Rhode Island, a state that does not issue titles for cars 10 years old or older... see their statement. I still have the RI license plates.

When I was visiting London I contacted Frank Dale & Stepsons, who still had the file on the 411 that they sold to Heafitz. They gave me the complete file that included the V5 and other records.

On moving to New Zealand, I imported the 411 as a migrant, but never registered it. It became entangled in the new VIN law that resulted in a requirement that an inspecting engineer sign off. After spending several thousand dollars, it became apparent the process lacked checks and balances, thus I brought the 411 back to my home and parked it.

Apparently the UK paperwork means that it is much easier to re-register in the UK and not attract the same level of import duty that would apply if the records had not been retained.
